Privacy.

The essentials

01
Who is responsible for your information. This website is operated by an individual working on her own account as a sole trader in the United Kingdom. She is the data controller. There is no company and no third party involved: what you write is read by one person. For anything in this notice — including any request about your own information — write to hi@joinme.one. No data protection officer is required or appointed; correspondence comes to me directly. This notice is given under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018.
02
What this notice covers. It covers this website and any correspondence arising from it. It does not cover other websites you may reach from here, which have their own notices and their own practices.
03
The short version. You write to me; I read it and reply, or I do not. What you send is kept while it is useful and then deleted. It is never sold, never shared for anyone else's purposes, and never used to market anything to you. If you would rather I held nothing at all, say so and it goes.

What is collected

04
What you choose to tell me.What you write in the enquiry form: your name, where in the world you are, what you have in mind, when, and an email address to answer you at. Anything further you volunteer in later correspondence. Nothing on this site requires an account, and none is offered.
05
What the server records. When the form is submitted the server also records technical information: your IP address, your browser and device type, your language setting, the page you arrived from, and the time of submission. From your IP address an approximate location — city, region, country, time zone and internet provider — is derived. This is used to tell genuine enquiries from automated abuse and to protect the site from misuse.
06
A record of every submission.Every submission is recorded, including those the site refuses — an automated one, an incomplete one, or one turned away by the anti-abuse limits. That record contains what was submitted together with the technical information above. It exists so that abuse can be identified and so that a genuine enquiry which failed to arrive can be found. It is held outside the public part of the server and is readable only by me.
07
What is deliberately not collected. No accounts, no profiles, no advertising identifiers, no marketing lists, no data brokers, no purchases of information about you from anyone. I do not ask for and do not want information about your health, your sex life, your religion, your politics, your ethnicity, your trade union membership, your genetic or biometric data, or any criminal matter. Please do not send such information. If you do, it will be deleted rather than kept, and sending it is your own decision and not something asked of you.

Why, and on what legal basis

08
Reading and answering you.Your enquiry is processed so that it can be read and, where it suits, answered and arrangements made. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR — steps taken at your request before entering into an arrangement — and, for correspondence more generally, Article 6(1)(f), my legitimate interest in managing my own correspondence.
09
Keeping the site from being misused. The technical information and the record of submissions are processed under Article 6(1)(f), my legitimate interest in preventing abuse of this website and of the mailbox behind it, and in protecting my own safety. I have considered this against your interests and consider it proportionate: the information is minimal, held briefly, seen by one person and used for nothing else.
10
Measurement of how the site is found.Analytics are used only where you have agreed to them, and the legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR and regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. Until you agree, no analytics cookie is placed on your device. You may change your mind at any time — see Cookies below.
11
Legal obligations.Where the law requires information to be kept or disclosed, the basis is Article 6(1)(c). This is rare and I would not expect it to arise.
12
No marketing, ever. You will not receive marketing from me, and your address will not be used to send you anything you did not ask for. There is no list to be added to.

Cookies

13
What is set, and when.No cookie of any kind is placed on your device when you arrive. The fonts are served from this website's own server, so no font provider learns that you were here. If you agree to measurement, a third-party analytics service places cookies which allow it to count visits and report, in aggregate, how the site was found and read. Advertising and remarketing features are switched off, and the data is not used to build a profile of you or to target anything at you.
14
Until you agree. If you decline, or simply never answer, the analytics service still receives a signal that a page was viewed — but with no cookie, no identifier and nothing that can be linked back to you or to any other visit. That signal contributes only to an anonymous count.
15
Changing your mind.Your choice is remembered in your own browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and it is not sent anywhere. Use the Cookies link at the foot of any page to change it whenever you like; withdrawing is as easy as agreeing was. Clearing your browser data resets the choice, and your browser's own settings can block cookies entirely.

Who sees it, and where it goes

16
Who receives your information.Your details are not sold, traded, rented or disclosed for anyone else's purposes. They are handled by: the hosting provider that runs this website and stores the record of submissions; the email provider that carries correspondence; an IP geolocation service, which receives your IP address alone and nothing else, in order to derive the approximate location described above; and the analytics provider, but only if you have agreed to measurement. Each acts under contract and on my instructions. Beyond that, disclosure happens only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim, or to protect someone's safety.
17
An automatic acknowledgement. On submitting the form you receive a single automatic email confirming that your note arrived. It is not marketing, and nothing further follows unless I reply personally. To prevent this website being used to send unwanted mail to others, the number of acknowledgements sent to any one address in a given period is limited.
18
Information leaving the United Kingdom. Some providers process information outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where that happens it is done under a lawful transfer mechanism: an adequacy decision or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, together with additional safeguards where appropriate. You may ask me which mechanism applies to a given provider and I will tell you.
19
How long it is kept.Enquiries that are not taken further, and the automatic record of submissions, are deleted within three months. Correspondence that continues is kept for as long as the acquaintance does and is then deleted. Anything needed to establish or defend a legal claim, or that the law requires me to keep, is kept for as long as that reason lasts and no longer.
20
How it is kept.Correspondence is held with reputable providers under their own security arrangements. The record of submissions is stored outside the publicly reachable part of the server, with file permissions that restrict it to my own account, and is not accessible from the web. Traffic to this website is encrypted in transit. No system is perfect and I do not claim otherwise, but nothing here is held more widely or for longer than it needs to be.

Your rights

21
What you may ask for.You may ask at any time for a copy of what is held about you; for it to be corrected if it is wrong; for it to be erased; for processing to be restricted; for it to be provided in a portable form; and you may object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests. Where processing rests on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time, which does not affect anything done beforehand.
22
How to ask.Write to hi@joinme.one. Requests are answered within one month, free of charge, without ceremony and without asking you why. I may need to satisfy myself that the request comes from you before acting on it, which for an emailed enquiry usually means replying from the address you originally wrote from.
23
Decisions are made by a person. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Whether I answer an enquiry is a decision made by a person reading it.
24
Nothing here is compulsory. You are not obliged to give me anything. Without a name, a way to reply and some idea of what you have in mind, I cannot answer — but that is the only consequence, and there is no other.
25
Children. This website is not directed at anyone under 18 and nothing here is knowingly collected from a child. If you believe a child has written to me, tell me and it will be deleted at once.

Elsewhere in the world

26
If you are in the European Economic Area.Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies to you, this notice should be read as giving the equivalent rights under that Regulation.
27
If you are elsewhere. This site is operated from the United Kingdom and is not directed at any particular country beyond it. Wherever you write from, what is described here is what happens to your information, and the rights set out above are offered to you whether or not the law of your own country requires them. Where local law gives you further rights, write and ask; I would rather give them than argue about them.
28
Changes to this notice. This notice may be revised. The version published here at the time of your enquiry is the version that applied to it, and any substantive change will be reflected in the date below.
